New Year, New Schedule

Happy 2010! Time to get back onto the dance floor! Here is the schedule for the classes being offered beginning January 4:

Mondays
3:15 - 4:15 Ballet/Tap Combo (ages 4 - 7)
4:20 - 5:20 Ballet I (ages 8-12)
5:25 - 6:25 Jazz I (ages 8-12)
6:30 - 7:30 Adult Ballet & Jazz mix (ages 18 & up) - Canceled. Contact Renée if interested in adult classes.

Thursdays
4:30 - 5:30 Teen Jazz (ages 13 - 17)
5:30 - 6:30 Teen Ballet (ages 13-17)

Fridays
4:00 - 5:00 Intro to Tap (OPEN - all ages 7 & up)
5:00 - 6:00 Intro to Hip Hop (ages 8 - 12)

Hip Hop Holiday

Join Alex Fetbroth for a 90-minute Hip-Hop Holiday Dance Workshop on Saturday, December 19, 10:30 am - 12 pm in the Hubbardston Center School gym. Check-In/Registration begins at 10 am. The workshop is open to ages 8 through adult and participants need not have dance experience. Cost is $8/person in advance, $10 at the door.

Former student of Maplewind Dance Instructor Renée Carleen and fresh to the L.A. dance scene, Alex Fetbroth is already starting to make his name known. You can currently see Alex dancing in Miley Cyrus' newest projects such as the American Music Awards, "Fly on the Wall" music video, and Hannah Montana: The Movie and with upcoming pop princess Kristine Elezaj. He has appeared on The Today Show, Good Morning America with Sobe, and So You Think You Can Dance as a top 70 finalist.

Besides his love for performing, one of Alex's other passions is teaching. He has been instructing classes and choreographing for studios throughout the U.S. since the age of 16. He brings a charismatic energy that makes everyone want to get out of their seats and learn. Alex loves to share his passion for dance, whether it's performing or teaching, and hopes to do it all as long as he can.

The Nutcracker


Come kick off your holiday season with Maplewind in it's production of The Nutcracker at the Hubbardston Center School on Saturday, November 21 at 2 pm.
The performance is free and open to the public.

ART
Art Classes for Teens & Adults (a good family class!)
Ages 12 and up including adults.
Tuesdays 7:15-8:15
12 weeks, $120 plus material fees
Minimum of 10 students, maximum of 15
Using “clean” media such as watercolor, pen and ink, and drawing tools, we will explore different aspects and techniques each week. Included will be: trees, close up of flowers, still life and abstraction.

CREATIVE WRITING
Young Writers Program
Ages 13-18, Mondays, 3-4 pm

Minimum of 4, maximum of 12
In honor of November as National Novel Writing Month, we’ll be working out the details of what makes good fiction. In September and October we will create characters, determine plots, choose settings and set our own word count goals (a novel is 50,000 words!). Teen Poetry Writers Workshop

Maplewind Sampler
Ages 8 and up

Come sample some of what Maplewind offers all in one class. Art, Dance and Creative Writing will be alternated each week so come try out a little of everything – jazz, ballet, watercolors, poetry, drawing and more! Email Rhonda hamer at rhonpaul@aol.com for more information.

The Nutcracker
All ages
Mondays 5-6:30 pm
10 weeks, $50
Minimum of 12, maximum of 24 for Dance
Minimum of 6, maximum of 12 for Production
Participants must choose one component as they meet at the same time and will be working together. Music will be provided by the Maplewind Orchestra.

  • Dance Component – for those interested in performing in this classical ballet. Completion of one previously completed or currently enrolled 12 week class, preferably ballet, required. Contact instructor Renee Carleen at dancerenee20@gmail.com for more dance information.

Tappin' Fun
Ages 7 – 12
Thursdays 4-5 pm,

Classic, tap technique class for toe-tappin' FUN - a great form of exercise, builds rhythm & coordination.

Homeschool Theater

Minimum 6, maximum 15
Children will work together to learn the basics of the theater and how to put a performance together with short scripts and improvisational sessions. Children will learn about basic theater language and techniques through games and short scripts. Please be prompt, wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to attempt to learn short scripts. Some improv skills will also be worked on. We will try to teach some techniques for memorizing lines also! We will adjust the class according to the interest of the group. Elementary School Students

Explore the invigorating world of theater improvisation! Here we make up the scenes as we go along and anything goes. We will create instant scenes and stories with our imagination and boost our confidence as we go! We can create our own scripts and skits! Maybe even form a traveling troupe? Music and Movement
Toddlers, Preschoolers & Parents or Caregivers
Tuesdays, 10-11 am

Enjoy this hour long group class is for toddlers and preschoolers with your children. It is a great way to have fun, meet new friends and get exercise! We will learn songs, use simple equipment like bean bags, music sticks, balls, hula hoops, and play with parachutes. Come join in on the fun!!!
